Google always gives Android builds
a sweet treat nickname that goes in alphabetical order. The last
version was Marshmallow, and now it’s time for an N treat. People threw
around all sorts of suggestions like Nutella and Neapolitan, but Google eventually went with Nougat,
possibly the most predictable choice. I’ll just save you the Google
search: Nougat is a candy consisting of sugar, roasted nuts, whipped egg
whites, and sometimes candied fruit.
But at least it’s also better than some user-chosen names (Android ‘Nipples’) so I guess we’ll take it. Realistically speaking, Nutella probably would have involved some licensing woes, though they managed to do it for Kit Kat.
The announcement was made by Google through a variety of platforms,
including through Android's official Twitter account. The statue design
for the new operating system has also been revealed, with the green
Android robot mascot standing on top of three nougat bars of different
flavors.
Android
7.0 Nougat is also expected to introduce a revamped notification panel,
side-by-side app support, and improved speed when switching between
apps. But at least it’s also better than some user-chosen names (Android ‘Nipples’) so I guess we’ll take it. Realistically speaking, Nutella probably would have involved some licensing woes, though they managed to do it for Kit Kat.
